The Ministry of the Environment decided Thursday to allow its workers to dress extremely casually this summer, such as in aloha shirts and jeans, under its new “Super Cool Biz” summertime energy-conserving campaign.
During the new campaign period set to start in June, the workers will be able to wear polo shirts, plain T-shirts, sneakers and sandals, in efforts to keep office temperatures at 28 C amid concerns over power shortages due to the crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant and the planned suspension of the Hamaoka nuclear plant.
It will call on other ministries and municipalities to introduce the super casual dress code and also plan to organize a fashion show to promote the idea, they said.
